BW Energy has confirmed that the drilling program for the Kharas appraisal well in Namibia is on track for the third quarter of 2025.
The company has received rig bids, and the selection process is currently underway.
The Kharas appraisal well is located in the northern part of the Kudu licence, and BW Energy is collaborating closely with other operators in the Orange Basin to optimize the use of available resources.
BW Energy holds a 95% operated ownership interest in the project, with Namcor holding the remaining 5% working interest.
Namcor also has an additional 5% back-in right upon the first gas discovery, subject to specific conditions.
The company is advancing an updated development strategy for the Kudu gas-to-power project, which involves the use of a modified semi-submersible drilling rig that will serve as a floating production unit.
This repurposed facility will streamline the project timeline and significantly reduce capital expenditures compared to earlier development plans.
In 2024, BW Energy secured board approval to drill up to two appraisal wells, with long lead items already procured. The first appraisal well is scheduled to spud in the second half of 2025.
Additionally, in 2024, BW Energy completed a 3D Pre-Stack Depth Migration (PSDM) seismic survey covering approximately 5,000 square kilometers over the Kudu licence area.
This survey will enhance the depositional model and help identify potential upside targets for future exploration.
