BW Energy Commences Production at Hibiscus South Well in Offshore Gabon

Oil and gas company BW Energy has initiated production at the DHBSM-1H well, situated in the Hibiscus South Field on the Dussafu license offshore Gabon, just five months after its discovery.

Currently yielding between 5,000 and 6,000 barrels of oil per day (bpd), the well is projected to recover approximately 6.6 million barrels from a total oil in place of around 22 million barrels.

John Hamilton, CEO of Panoro Energy, a partner in the Dussafu license, highlighted the significance of the infrastructure-led exploration strategy, emphasizing its ability to create substantial value for shareholders.

Drilled to a depth of 5,960m into Gamba sandstone, the DHBSM-1H well is located approximately 5km southwest of the existing MaBoMo production facility.

BW Energy CEO Carl K. Arnet praised the rapid and efficient execution of the Hibiscus South fast-track development, emphasizing its low-cost and low-risk nature, which expands the Dussafu production and reserve base.

Following completion, the drilling rig has moved on to commence operations on the Ruche sidetrack well DRM-3H ST1, forming part of BW Energy’s Hibiscus/Ruche Phase 1 development project.

Expected to increase oil production to 40,000 bpd, the Hibiscus/Ruche Phase 1 project will transport oil via pipeline to the BW Adolo FPSO for processing and storage before export.

Hamilton expressed confidence in the future growth potential of the Dussafu Marin subsurface, citing its history of delivering positive results, as BW Energy progresses with its multi-well exploration program in Gabon.
