BP has successfully drilled two new wells at the Raven gas field, the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources announced.
The Valaris DS-12 drilling vessel, which commenced operations in the second half of 2024, completed the drilling ahead of schedule.
Offshore installation work is currently underway to connect the new wells to the production network, with production expected to begin in February 2025—three months earlier than initially planned, thanks to an accelerated drilling and installation timeline.
On July 20, 2024, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi, along with senior officials, inspected the Valaris DS-12 vessel to review the progress of drilling operations.
Following the completion of the Raven wells, the vessel has relocated to the King area to begin exploratory drilling for natural gas.
BP’s exploratory drilling in the King area targets the lower Miocene layer, with plans to reach the reservoir by the end of February 2025.
The well will then be integrated into existing infrastructure to enhance production capacity, contributing to Egypt’s GDP growth and energy development goals.
This effort is part of the Ministry’s broader strategy to expand offshore drilling in the Mediterranean, a region witnessing increased exploration activity. Recent developments include:
- Chevron’s drilling of the Khanjar-1 well.
- ExxonMobil’s operations at the Nefertari-1 site.
- Eni’s resumption of activities in the Zohr field earlier this month.
- BP’s continued progress at the Raven gas field.
BP’s achievements at the Raven gas field and its exploratory initiatives in the King area reinforce Egypt’s commitment to becoming a regional energy hub.
These projects highlight the collaborative efforts of global energy companies in unlocking the Mediterranean’s gas potential while supporting the country’s economic growth strategy.
