Botswana Oil Limited Granted Import License for 90% of National Fuel Requirement

On Monday, the Botswana Energy Regulator Authority (BERA) issued an import license to Botswana Oil Limited, authorizing the company to import 90% of Botswana’s fuel requirement.

The license was presented to Mr. Meshack Tshekedi, CEO of Botswana Oil, by BERA caretaker CEO Dr. Grace Tabengwa.

The granting of the license is contingent upon Botswana Oil Limited complying with various terms and conditions, including:

.Commencement of the license on April 1, 2024, and its indefinite validity, subject to relevant law amendments.

.Establishment, maintenance, refurbishment, and development of necessary facilities and equipment for safe operations.

.Adherence to safety, hazardous substances, security, health, and environmental standards.

.Sale of petroleum products exclusively in bulk quantities, with records maintained.

.Submission of reconciliations, supported by evidence, of imported petroleum products against national requirements.

.Provision of full access to records, documents, sites, and assets for monitoring purposes.

.Prior notification to the Authority of any significant changes impacting licensed activities.

This license marks a significant step in ensuring a stable and efficient fuel supply for Botswana, with Botswana Oil Limited taking on a pivotal role in meeting the nation’s energy needs.
