Block 15, marking 20 years of operation in Angola, aims to achieve an average production milestone of 30,000 barrels per day in the coming year, announced Melissa Bond, ExxonMobil’s General Director.
Situated about 145 kilometers off the Zaire province coast, Block 15 has seen significant success, reaching an accumulated production of 2.5 billion barrels since its discovery in April this year.
ExxonMobil’s investments exceeding $30 billion have resulted in 18 commercial discoveries within the block, fostering a workforce of nearly 500, with 92% being Angolan nationals.
At the anniversary celebration held in Luanda, Bond acknowledged the challenges ahead, citing the natural decline of oil production.
Emphasizing technological advancement and the company’s technical prowess, she highlighted ExxonMobil’s commitment to meeting these challenges.
Minister Diamantino Azevedo, present at the event, commended the significance of Block 15 and praised the efforts of key players, including ANPG, ExxonMobil, Azule Energy, Equinor, and Sonangol, in achieving substantial gains over the two-decade exploration period. Azevedo reiterated Angola’s aspiration for a continued strategic partnership with ExxonMobil.
SebastiĆ£o Martins, President of Sonangol’s Board of Directors, lauded the achievements of Block 15, likening it to Block 17’s success.
He expressed pride in the growth opportunities the block provided for Angolan youth, reflecting positively on both the company’s progress and the nation’s oil production.
