U.S. President Joe Biden is set to visit Luanda, Angola, in December to discuss key areas of collaboration, including economic partnerships, security, and health. This visit highlights Angola’s growing importance as a strategic partner to the U.S.
Biden’s trip aims to enhance U.S. companies’ global competitiveness and spotlight the G-7’s Partnership for Global Infrastructure and Investment initiative, which helped fund an 800 km railway connecting Angola with the Democratic Republic of Congo and Zambia.
The visit will also focus on boosting Angola’s energy security and climate action. The U.S. has provided approximately $900 million to support the development of over 500 MW of solar power in the country.
In addition, Biden is expected to address the strengthening of democracy and civic engagement in Angola, with a focus on enhancing peace and security in the region.
Between 2020 and 2023, Angola received $18 million in U.S. military aid, with growing cooperation in areas such as maritime security, space, and cyber defense.
