Angola Launches Production at Begónia Offshore Oil Project

The National Agency for Petroleum, Gas and Biofuels (ANPG), TotalEnergies (the operator), and partners of the Block 17/06 Contractor Group have announced the start of oil production at the Begónia Project.

The extracted crude will be processed via the FPSO Pazflor, located in Block 17, offshore from Angola’s Zaire Province.

The Block 17/06 partnership includes TotalEnergies (30% operator interest), Sonangol EP (30%), SSI (27.5%), ETU Energias (7.5%), and Falcon Oil (5%).

Situated approximately 150 kilometers off the Angolan coast, Begónia marks the country’s first inter-block subsea development, connecting Block 17 and Block 17/06.

Operating at water depths between 800 and 1,200 meters, the project involves five subsea wells tied back to the existing infrastructure of the FPSO Pazflor.

According to ANPG, the Begónia Project will contribute an additional 30,000 barrels of oil per day to Pazflor’s production capacity. The total investment for the project amounts to $850 million USD.

Despite the existence of two separate contractor groups for Blocks 17 and 17/06, collaborative efforts between the concessionaire and the associated companies enabled the technical and contractual feasibility required to sanction the Begónia Project.

This milestone underscores Angola’s continued commitment to optimizing its offshore oil resources through strategic partnerships and innovative deepwater developments.
