Azule Energy announced the successful completion of the Quiluma and Maboqueiro offshore platforms this Tuesday, marking a significant step toward the production of “Made in Angola” gas.
This achievement is described as a crucial element of the New Gas Consortium (NGC) project and represents a key milestone in Angola’s first non-associated gas development, according to a statement sent to VerAngola.
Alister Forder, Azule Energy’s Operations Director, emphasized the importance of this success, noting that the project highlights the company’s commitment to unlocking Angola’s energy potential and contributing to a sustainable energy future.
“Today’s milestone reflects the spirit of collaboration, technical expertise, and dedication from all partners in the New Gas Consortium.
As we prepare for the first gas from the NGC, this project reaffirms our commitment to Angola’s energy potential and a sustainable future,” he said.
To celebrate the completion of this milestone, Azule Energy and its partners marked the loading and departure of the Quiluma deck from the Petromar Shipyard in Ambriz.
The event also showcased the project’s outstanding safety record, with 2.5 million man-hours completed without a single lost-time accident, underscoring the team’s commitment to safety and operational excellence.
The NGC project is a partnership between Azule Energy, Sonangol P&P, Chevron, and TotalEnergies. As the first non-associated gas initiative in Angola, it is set to play a vital role in ensuring a reliable gas supply to the Soyo LNG plant, thereby bolstering the country’s energy security and supporting economic growth.
The project involves the exploration and production of gas from the Quiluma and Maboqueiro shallow-water fields, featuring two offshore platforms and an onshore gas processing unit.
Together, these facilities aim to harness Angola’s natural gas resources, generating both economic and environmental benefits.
