The National Oil, Gas and Biofuels Agency (ANPG) will soon commence oil exploration prospecting in the municipalities of Rivungo, Calai, and Cuangar in the province of Cuando Cubango.
Following a meeting held by the provincial governor of Cuando Cubango, José Martins, ANPG’s director of the Institutional Security Office, Manuel Domingos Dembe, announced that the first phase involves demining work in four areas identified for oil prospecting.
Manuel Domingos Dembe stated that ANPG is operating in Cuando Cubango with an advance team to ensure access and mobility for technicians who will later conduct a geological study of the province’s potential.
Although some areas designated for prospecting are free of mines, a thorough review is essential to prevent accidents involving explosive devices.
The province was a major battleground during the armed conflict, necessitating meticulous demining.
“Despite demining being a relative process, verification is crucial to ensure zero-level incidents,” Dembe said, noting that Horizonte 21, a demining company, is carrying out this process.
During the prospecting work, over three thousand samples will be collected from the identified areas to assess the region’s oil potential and develop strategies for exploration.
Nationally, this process is also being carried out in the Cassange basins, covering the provinces of Cuanza-Norte, Uíge, Malanje, and Lundas Norte and Sul, as well as the Tochi-Okavango basins, which include the regions of Moxico, Cunene, and Cuando Cubango.
