The National Oil, Gas, and Biofuels Agency (ANPG) and Sonangol Exploration and Production are set to invest in a specialized service to identify oil and other hydrocarbons in the onshore blocks of the Kwanza Basin.
In a press release, ANPG announced that the project is scheduled to commence in September this year. The aim is to enhance geophysical and geological understanding of the Kwanza Basin blocks.
The initial phase of the project will involve data collection and processing, lasting approximately 45 days. The acquired data will help identify variations in rock properties, which may indicate the presence of geological structures capable of containing oil and other hydrocarbons. This effort aligns with ANPG’s Exploration Strategy.
The project involves contracting a specialized service for the acquisition of gravimetric data (studying and analyzing density variations) and magnetometric data (analyzing magnetic properties) in the onshore blocks of the Kwanza Basin, which spans the provinces of Luanda, Malanje, and Cuanza-Norte, including Blocks KON-11, KON-12, and KON-15.
The Striped-Horse and Metatek consortium will carry out the project using Airborne and FTG technology to gather critical data for creating high-resolution geophysical maps.
Data collection will be conducted via a specialized aircraft, minimizing environmental impact. The consortium is expected to deliver the final results of the study in the first quarter of 2025.
