Angola’s Oil Company to Produce Gas for Electricity Generation

The Angolan oil company ACREP will produce gas, from the 4th quarter of 2025, to generate electricity with the aim of supplying Cabinda province, revealed yesterday in Luanda, the director for Investor Relations, Pedro Sebastião.

With this project, the second largest private oil company in Angola wants to contribute to increasing the supply of electricity levels in the northernmost region of the country, which is also known as the land of oil and wood.

Interviewed on the occasion of ACREP’s participation in the 1st edition of the Angola Economic Forum (AEF), which took place last week in Luanda, he assured that gas production will be carried out with the installation of a group of state-of-the-art generators, with the potential to contribute to the development of the country’s electricity sector.

Pedro Sebastião made it known that, in addition to gas production, ACREP has been betting on the discovery of oil onshore, in Cabinda province, where it expects to produce heavy oil from Massambala.

“Our challenges involve the production of burnt oils from massambala and non-conventional clays. At the moment, we have reserves of non-conventional oils, which are our main intention”, he said.

Founded in 2004, ACREP has been operating since May this year in the Cabinda Sul block, where it produces 400 barrels of oil per day.

ACREP is a partner in onshore blocks 1/14 and Cabinda Norte, which are operated by Azule Energy. In block 4/05, where it is a partner of Sonangol Pesquisa e Produção, which it is about to leave   to develop other activities linked to the oil sector.

With 19 years in the national market, the Angolan private oil company has already participated in several oil fields, such as block 2/05, which is operated by Etu Energy (formerly Somoil, the largest privately owned Angolan oil company), where it is also starting .

In 2009, ACREP made the first export of oil extracted from block 4/05, which allowed the company to reach a peak of six million accumulated barrels.

At the beginning of oil activity, ACREP, a company headquartered in Luanda,   had as its main objective to obtain an active participation in the promotion and relaunch of the abandoned oil fields of the Onshore of the Kwanza Basin and of the marginal deposits in general.
