Angola’s Newfield Deepwater FPSO Project Commences

Angola’s deepwater Block 15/06 partners have reached a significant milestone with the completion of the survey and installation of the initial modules of the FPSO for the Agogo field, according to reports from the country’s regulator.

The National Oil, Gas, and Biofuels Agency (ANPG) announced that the first two modules of the FPSO Agogo have been successfully installed, marking the beginning of a crucial phase in the project.

ANPG stated, “These are the first two modules of the twelve (12) that will make up the FPSO Agogo. The others are being built in Singapore, Indonesia, and Vietnam.”

The vessel is scheduled to be delivered to Angolan waters by December 2025. Azule Energy, the joint venture between ENI and BP, operates the Agogo field, with partners including Sonangol and Sinopec.

ANPG explained that certain tasks, such as the construction of riser protectors, suction anchors, and submarine distribution units (SDU), are assigned to Sonamet’s shipyards in Benguela.

The FPSO will incorporate advanced technologies to reduce carbon emissions and enhance operational efficiency.

Angola’s Minister of Petroleum, Diamantino Azevedo, urged the partners to prioritize local content in their operations.

“We want them to increase the Angolan workforce and pay special attention to their training, preparing them for major challenges.

Likewise, I would like them to make more use of existing facilities and equipment in our country to strengthen our local content,” he emphasized.

Adriano Mongini, CEO of Azule, highlighted that the Agogo Project aims to optimize production from the Agogo and Ndungu Fields, ultimately boosting daily production to 170 thousand barrels and maximizing the reserves of Block 15/06.
