Angola Cuts Fuel Imports to 9.4 Million Tons in Second Quarter of 2025
Angola imported 9.4 million metric tons of fuel in the second quarter of 2025, worth USD 438 million — an 18 percent decrease compared to the previous quarter, according to official data.
Luis Fernando, Director-General of the Petroleum Derivatives Regulatory Institute (IRDP), told the Angola Press Agency that imports were dominated by diesel (59.6 percent), followed by gasoline (25 percent), Jet A1 aviation fuel (6.7 percent), and lighting oil (0.9 percent).
Speaking during the quarterly petroleum derivatives review meeting, Fernando also noted that Angola’s onshore fuel storage capacity currently stands at 675,968 cubic meters.
Fuel Stations and Market Overview
Angola has 1,204 fuel stations distributed across its 21 provinces. However, between April and June, only 919 were operational, with state-owned Sonangol maintaining market leadership.
During the same period, the country sold 1.2 million metric tons of fuel, a 7 percent drop compared to the first quarter of 2025, according to IRDP figures.
