Angola’s Minister of Mineral Resources, Petroleum, and Gas, Diamantino Azevedo, announced on Friday in Luanda that the Luanda Gold Refinery is expected to be inaugurated in the second half of this year, with 70% of construction already completed.
Speaking after an inspection visit, Azevedo confirmed that the refinery—an investment of over $5 million—will initially create 35 jobs across various specialties.
According to Endiama E.P., the minister highlighted that construction is progressing steadily, in line with the timeline set by the Sectoral Development Plan (PDS 2023-2027) and Angola’s broader economic diversification strategy.
Project manager Kimba Baptista stated that he had received specific directives to accelerate the completion of the main building.
He also noted that trained technical staff are already in place to ensure the smooth operation of the facility.
Baptista further emphasized the importance of increasing gold production levels. Once fully operational, the refinery will have a nominal processing capacity of 50 kilograms of gold.
