The President of the Republic, João Lourenço, will proceed, this Thursday, to the inauguration of the new Gasoline Production Complex assigned to the Luanda Refinery. The start of this project will make it possible to improve the quality of gasoline, but also to increase production capacity from 395,000 to 1,580,000 liters per day.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Mineral Resources, Oil and Gas, to which VerAngola had access, the start-up of the new complex will help improve the quality of gasoline, as well as quadruple production capacity.
“After the start of operations, in addition to improving the quality of gasoline, the new complex will allow for an increase in production capacity by four times more, that is, from 395,000 to 1,580,000 liters per day, which will contribute to a reduction of around 15 percent in annual fuel imports”, the note reads.
In addition, the project – which started in June 2019 and had technical support from ENI, with regard to engineering and construction supervision – will also bring several operational and environmental benefits, including the “increased production of butane gas , considerable reduction of gaseous emissions by using the hydrogen produced in the new complex, for the generation of electric energy in the combined cycle plant, generation of steam in the furnaces, among other gains”.
The note also mentions that the construction of this complex “is in line with the objective of increasing refining capacity” in the country, which is part of the objectives of the National Development Plan 2018-2022, which is being carried out by the Government.
