Angola Welcomes FPSO Agogo Ahead of 2025 Oil Production Launch

The floating production, storage, and offloading vessel (FPSO) Agogo—developed by Azule Energy (operator), the National Oil, Gas and Biofuels Agency (ANPG), and Block 15/06 partners Sonangol Exploration & Production and Sinopec—has arrived in Angolan waters as of May 15.

With a production capacity of 120,000 barrels of oil per day, the vessel plays a key role in the upcoming Agogo Integrated West Hub Project, set to begin operations in the second half of 2025.

According to the partners, FPSO Agogo is a central component of efforts to develop the two most significant discoveries in Block 15/06: the Agogo and Ndungu oil fields.

The Agogo field alone holds estimated reserves of approximately 450 million barrels and is expected to reach peak production of 175,000 barrels per day.

ANPG Chairman Paulino Jerónimo emphasized the importance of the vessel’s arrival, stating it marks a major milestone in the project’s implementation.

“The project has gone through many challenging stages, but it also demonstrates the strength of our partnerships and the determination of Angolan talent.

A portion of the FPSO’s structure was manufactured in domestic shipyards, reinforcing our commitment to local content,” he said.

Azule Energy CEO Adriano Mongini added, “Angola’s energy sector thrives on strong partnerships. The early completion of FPSO Agogo—months ahead of schedule—highlights Azule Energy’s project execution capabilities and the outstanding collaboration between all stakeholders.”

The FPSO was constructed and is operated by Yinson Production. It departed from the Cosco Shipping Heavy Industry shipyard in China and made a brief stop in Namibia for resupply and crew changes as part of its planned logistics before anchoring in Angola.
