Pan-African Parliament Calls on Angola to Ratify AfCFTA for Africa’s Economic Integration
The President of the Pan-African Parliament (PAP), Chief Fortune Zephania Charumbira, has wrapped up a four-day official visit to Angola aimed at encouraging the country to ratify the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) agreement — a cornerstone initiative for Africa’s economic integration.
The AfCFTA, a flagship project of the African Union’s Agenda 2063, seeks to remove trade barriers across the continent and boost intra-African trade.
Chief Charumbira underscored that national parliaments have a vital role in ensuring its success, urging Angola to join the initiative without delay.
In his meeting with Carolina Cerqueira, President of the Angolan National Assembly, he highlighted that Angola, along with Madagascar and Seychelles, remains among the few African countries yet to ratify the agreement.
Cerqueira welcomed Charumbira’s historic visit — the first by a PAP president to Angola — and reaffirmed her parliament’s commitment to advancing legislation and policies that support economic integration.
This diplomatic mission reflects the PAP’s determination to accelerate continental cooperation and press member states to align with the African Union’s goals for sustainable development and shared prosperity.
