Angola is prioritizing the technical training of its geological workforce to tackle the challenges of prospecting, discovering, and managing valuable mineral deposits.
This commitment was reaffirmed at the recent opening of a seminar titled “Geological Workflow – Drilling to Geological Decision, Applied to the Oil and Gas Industry.”
The event, co-hosted by the Geological Institute of Angola (IGEO) and Seequent, brought together industry professionals for a two-day discussion on mining challenges in Angola.
Importance of Advanced Techniques
Jânio Corrêa Victor, Secretary of State for Mineral Resources, highlighted the importance of advanced geological techniques in mitigating exploration risks. He emphasized the value of:
-Flow optimization for exploration work linked to geological modeling
-Data integration, modeling, and collaboration in managing oil and gas reservoirs
Mr. Victor linked the focus on geological expertise to the challenges and goals outlined in Angola’s National Development Plan (2023-2027).
He emphasized the role of geology, geophysics, geochemistry, hydrogeology, surveying, and related specialties in achieving the plan’s objectives within the mining sector.
The seminar also shed light on geological data modeling techniques. This 3D modeling approach provides valuable insights into mineral and petroleum deposits, allowing for more informed decisions with reduced risk during exploration activities.
By investing in staff training and fostering collaboration with companies like Seequent, Angola is taking steps to strengthen its geological capabilities.
This will be crucial for optimizing mineral exploration efforts and contributing to the nation’s economic development.
