Angola to Anchor New Africa-Latin America Copper Route

The multinational company PLASFER, which specializes in raw material exports, is advancing administrative and technical processes to leverage the Lobito Corridor as a “New Copper Industry Export Route.”

This strategic logistics route aims to connect the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Angola, Latin America, and Europe.

PLASFER has spent over three years developing an innovative project in the DRC, in collaboration with partners across Europe and the Americas.

The company considers this new logistics initiative one of the most significant developments in African trade in the past 50 years, as it enables a previously non-existent commercial flow across the continent.

Angola was selected as the logistical base for the project due to its robust port infrastructure and strategic geographic location, which makes it an ideal connector between Central Africa and Latin American markets.

The innovative export corridor will strengthen intercontinental trade relations and create new opportunities for Angolan companies seeking to expand internationally.

According to a company statement shared with Jornal de Angola, the goal is to shorten delivery times and reduce the financial costs associated with traditional export routes via the Indian Ocean.

This move comes as Angola makes major strides in transportation infrastructure within Southern Africa, now operating one of the region’s largest logistical systems.

Headquartered in Porto, Portugal, PLASFER offers tailored, high-quality solutions across the plastics, healthcare, food, and biofuel sectors.

The company emphasizes that this initiative also aims to reinforce strategic partnerships with businesses in Angola, the DRC, and Brazil.

“Our multinational company is built on strong relationships and a clear vision for a sustainable future,” the report reads.

“PLASFER is implementing a new logistics route between Africa and Latin America using Angola’s infrastructure as a strategic hub.”

The report introduces the “New Copper Industry Export Route,” connecting the DRC, Angola, Latin America, and Europe, offering consumers a more efficient and competitive supply chain alternative.

The project’s primary focus is the export of copper cathodes to supply Latin American industries, especially in Brazil.

However, PLASFER’s ambitions go beyond simply exporting raw materials. The second phase of the project will focus on local industrialization in Angola, adding value to the copper before export.

With global demand for raw materials on the rise, the development of the Lobito Corridor signals Angola’s potential to become a regional hub for copper rod production aimed at the European market.

PLASFER plans to process copper cathodes extracted in the DRC within Angola, increasing the product’s value while stimulating local industrial development.

According to the report, over 40 European cable manufacturers have already expressed interest in purchasing copper refined in Angola.

The planned production includes 8mm copper rods and drawn wires (used in electrical and electronics industries).

This model will also benefit Angola’s national industry by creating jobs, building a skilled workforce, and fueling economic growth.

The goal is for Angola to emerge as a major supplier of refined copper to Europe and Latin America, further solidifying its role in global markets.

“This project represents a long-term commitment to sustainable development and Angola’s industrialization,” the report concludes.

“By transforming Angola into a hub for refined copper production and export, PLASFER is contributing to local wealth creation, reducing dependency on unprocessed exports, and strengthening the national economy.”
