Angola’s National Agency for Petroleum, Gas and Biofuels (ANPG) has signed a Risk Service Contract for Block CON 4 with a consortium made up of Etu Energias, national oil company Sonangol, and Gesprocon.
The agreement grants the consortium a 25-year operating license—comprising five years for exploration and 20 years for production—on the onshore block.
Paulino Jerónimo, Chairman of the ANPG Board of Directors, highlighted the importance of the technical studies outlined in the contract, stating they are essential for a thorough assessment of the region’s hydrocarbon potential.
This agreement aligns with Angola’s ongoing efforts to attract new investment in the oil sector and supports the country’s National Development Plan 2023–2027, which aims to ensure sustainable oil and gas production as a driver of economic growth.
José Barroso, Secretary of State for Oil and Gas at the Ministry of Mineral Resources, Oil and Gas, noted that the contract will promote local content, job creation, and skills development, particularly with the involvement of local companies Etu Energias and Sonangol.
Block CON 4’s location near other Etu Energias-operated concessions also presents opportunities for infrastructure sharing and accelerated exploration activities, strengthening Angola’s position in the regional energy landscape.
