Angola presents strategy for the oil industry

The Minister of Mineral Resources, Oil and Gas presents today July 6th, in Vienna, Austria, the Executive’s strategic plan for the development of the oil industry and the energy transition in the country.

Diamantino Azevedo   presents this plan during a Ministerial session on the paths to energy transition, as part of the program of the 8th OPEC International Seminar, which takes place under the motto “A smooth and inclusive energy transition”, which brings together delegations from 23 member countries of the energy cartel producers and allies, as well as oil company executives and regulatory agencies.

Speaking to the press, Diamantino Azevedo said that the Government’s objective is to stabilize oil production and combat the decline, within the framework of the strategy to boost exploration, bidding for oil blocks, which is carried out within the scope of a Presidential Decree that favors the   permanent offer of   blocks through public tender.

The holder of the Mineral Resources, Oil and Gas portfolio said that, alongside this strategic plan, the department he directs has been taking important measures for the marginal fields, with the aim of developing the areas already explored and the implementation of the new consortium of the gas.

“We are also working on projects that aim to add value to oil production in Angola, refining, petrochemicals and the increase in solar energy projects that the Executive is developing and Sonangol is oriented to continue working with the objective of transforming itself into an onshore energy storage company, because we don’t want to be left out of the entire energy transition process,” he said.

Diamantino Azevedo referred that the Government has its own strategy on the energy transition and for non-renewables.

“We have solar energy projects that the Executive is developing and Sonangol is oriented to continue working with the aim of transforming itself into an energy company.

We are also developing solar, wind and biofuel energy projects, as well as other projects linked to the energy sector”, he concluded.

On Tuesday, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Sonangol, Sebastião Gaspar Martins, participated in the panel on “Energy Investment: Challenges and Opportunities”, while the CEO of the National Oil and Gas Agency (ANGP), Paulino Jerónimo, participated in the panel that addressed the “Role of international cooperation in the diversification of economies”.
