JA Online An Angolan delegation will participate from 13th to 14th in Dakar, the capital of Senegal, at the Global Conference of the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI).
The Minister of Mineral Resources, Petroleum, and Gas, Diamantino Azevedo, will give a presentation on the progress made in transparency and efforts for the development of the extractive sector, with a focus on prospecting and future exploration of minerals considered critical for the energy transition.
According to a statement published today on the website of that Ministerial Department, the country participates with a delegation that includes the governmental component, representatives of the extractive industry in the field of mineral resources and hydrocarbons, as well as members of civil society in the National Coordinating Committee (NCC) of EITI.
Among the government officials, experts in the extractive industry, academics, and civil society, speeches are expected from the President of Senegal, Macky Sall, the Secretary-General of EITI, Helen Clark, the President of Mauritania, Mohamed Ghazouani, the Prime Minister of Norway, Jonas Store, and the former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Tony Blair, among others, representing more than 130 personalities from countries on all five continents.
President João Lourenço decided to apply for Angola’s membership in EITI in 2020, creating the National Coordinating Committee through Presidential Dispatch No. 117|20 of September 1st. The country was accepted as the 57th member of the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative on June 16, 2022.
By the end of this year, Angola is expected to present its first report reflecting the progress in terms of transparency in the exploration and utilization of financial resources from the national extractive industry.
