Angola Launches National Space Agency to Drive Technological Independence and Innovation

President João Lourenço Inaugurates Angolan Space Agency to Advance National Space Program and Boost Technological Self-Reliance

Angola has officially launched its National Space Agency, a major step toward advancing the country’s National Space Program and strengthening its role in the global space sector.

President João Lourenço announced the creation of the agency during his State of the Nation Address on Wednesday.

The new agency will operate under five key pillars: space infrastructure, training and promotion, industry and technology, international positioning, and organization and cooperation.

It will serve as the central authority for all national space activities, building upon the foundation established by the former National Space Program Management Office.

With this initiative, Angola aims to transition from being a consumer of space services and products to becoming a producer and operator.

This strategic shift is expected to enhance the nation’s technological independence and foster innovation in the space sector.

Currently, Angola operates the ANGOSAT-2 satellite, which provides vital telecommunications services across both urban and remote regions of the country.

The launch of the National Space Agency marks a significant milestone in Angola’s journey toward becoming a key player in Africa’s space industry.
