Angola and the Dominican Republic have held a meeting to explore potential collaboration in the field of oil and gas development.
The discussion took place between María Cándida Pereira Teizeira, Angola’s Ambassador to the Dominican Republic, and Eng. Antonio Almonte, the Caribbean country’s Minister of Energy and Mines.
During the meeting, the parties discussed how Angola, being the largest oil producer in sub-Saharan Africa and having significant mining experience, could assist in enhancing the Dominican Republic’s production and refining capabilities.
The Dominican Republic heavily relies on fuel imports, and Ambassador Teizeira emphasized that Angola’s resources could be valuable in reducing this dependence and generating income for Angola’s energy industry.
Eng. Almonte welcomed the interest shown by Ambassador Teizeira in strengthening ties between the two countries. He acknowledged Angola’s extensive experience in mining essential minerals such as diamonds, cobalt, and manganese, which are crucial for modern industries.
The meeting took place at the Ministry of Energy and Mines headquarters in Santo Domingo, the capital city of the Dominican Republic. It involved a ministerial delegation from both countries, including Vice Minister of Energy Rafael Gómez, as well as Ministerial Executives Nisael Dirocié, Helen Pérez, and Carolina Sánchez. Ambassador Teizeira was accompanied by Helio Dos Santos, the First Secretary for Political and Economic Affairs, and a delegation that included press and military attachés.
