AMEA Power Breaks Ground on 50 MW Bondoukou Solar Project in Ivory Coast

AMEA Power has officially launched construction of the 50 MW Bondoukou Solar Photovoltaic Project in Ivory Coast, marking a significant step in the country’s renewable energy transition.

The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by government officials and project financiers, including Ivory Coast’s Minister of Mines, Petroleum, and Energy, H.E. Sangafowa Coulibaly, and AMEA Power’s CFO, David Falcon.

The $60 million project is being developed under a Build-Own-Operate-Transfer (BOOT) model by AMEA Goutougou, a subsidiary of AMEA Power, with funding support from FMO and DEG.

The Bondoukou Solar Plant aligns with Ivory Coast’s goal of diversifying its energy mix by increasing the share of renewable energy in the country’s power generation.

Once operational, the plant will generate clean electricity, benefiting thousands of households and helping the country reduce its dependence on fossil fuels while enhancing its energy security.

Minister Sangafowa Coulibaly emphasized the project’s importance in advancing the nation’s energy transition and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to utilizing renewable energy to ensure a sustainable and reliable power supply.

David Falcon, CFO of AMEA Power, expressed the company’s dedication to driving clean energy growth across Africa.

He highlighted the Bondoukou project as a testament to AMEA Power’s mission of fostering economic growth and energy security through sustainable solutions.

The construction phase will not only provide clean energy but also create jobs and build local expertise in the renewable energy sector, contributing to long-term economic development.

AMEA Power continues to expand its renewable energy footprint across Africa, and the success of the Bondoukou project is expected to serve as a model for future large-scale clean energy investments in the region.

With construction progressing rapidly, the plant is expected to be operational in the coming months, providing affordable, reliable, and sustainable electricity.

This project further cements Ivory Coast’s position as a leader in West Africa’s renewable energy transition.
