Algeria is set to launch a strategic partnership with China aimed at revolutionizing its renewable energy sector through local solar panel manufacturing.
The upcoming investment agreement is expected to mark a significant step toward expanding the country’s clean energy capacity and reducing reliance on imported technology.
According to a statement from the Algerian Ministry of Industry, local industrial group Elec will sign a cooperation deal this week with Chinese solar giant LONGi Green Energy Technology Co., Ltd.
The agreement will pave the way for a state-of-the-art facility in Algeria dedicated to producing high-efficiency photovoltaic panels.
This initiative aligns with Algeria’s broader goal of achieving energy independence and emerging as a regional leader in renewable energy.
Under the leadership of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, the government has intensified efforts to attract foreign investment and build national expertise in critical sectors such as green technology.
Industry Minister Sifi Grieb recently hosted LONGi CEO Mr. Jin James, who shared the company’s vision and global achievements in solar energy innovation.
He also expressed LONGi’s strong interest in contributing to Algeria’s clean energy ambitions.
Minister Grieb reaffirmed the government’s commitment to welcoming foreign partnerships that align with national development goals.
He stressed the importance of projects that establish robust industrial infrastructure and prioritize local involvement.
“We fully support initiatives that create genuine industrial value and promote local content, especially in strategic sectors vital to our energy and environmental future,” he stated.
The partnership with LONGi is expected to not only boost Algeria’s renewable energy capabilities but also generate jobs and stimulate the growth of a domestic green economy.
