AECIPA President Highlights Oil Industry’s Role in Angola’s Economic Diversification

The growth of Angola’s oil industry is driving economic improvements and contributing to diversification across sectors, particularly in industries and agriculture, according to Braulio de Brito, president of the Association of Companies Providing Services in the Angolan Oil Industry (AECIPA).

In an interview with Lusa during the Angola Oil & Gas Conference, de Brito stated, “The expansion of the oil industry translates into growth for the Angolan economy, promoting diversification and encouraging the development of sectors such as industry and agriculture. We must also consider the aspects of energy transformation.”

When asked about balancing the need to reduce dependence on oil and gas with growing environmental concerns, de Brito emphasized that these goals are not incompatible.

“The key is not just focusing on international metrics but finding ways to increase production efficiently, with an emphasis on minimizing environmental impact. We need to promote cleaner, more environmentally friendly production techniques.”

De Brito stressed that the continued production and export of oil could drive economic diversification, provided it is done sustainably.

“The financial strength brought by the oil industry can and should be converted into various projects that the Angolan government is implementing to ensure the diversification of the economy.”

As president of Tradinter, an Angolan service provider, de Brito also pointed out that the Angola Oil & Gas Conference offers a vital platform for reflection on the future of the industry in Angola and Africa.

The event facilitates discussions on local content development, human capital, and investment opportunities. “There is continued interest from multinational companies in exploring opportunities in Angola,” he said.

The Angola Oil & Gas Conference, held at the Talatona Convention Center, is the country’s flagship event for the sector.

Supported by the Ministry of Natural Resources, Petroleum and Gas, Sonangol, the African Energy Chamber, and the Petroleum Derivatives Regulatory Institute, the conference focuses on “Boosting Exploration and Development Towards Increased Production in Angola.” Last year, it attracted over 2,200 delegates from 41 countries and saw the signing of seven agreements.
