Angola’s state-owned diamond marketing company, Sodiam, announced the electronic auction of 44 special diamonds, each weighing approximately 10.80 carats.
The evaluation sessions will take place from October 7th to 16th, with bidding set to close at 10:00 am local time on the final day.
According to Sodiam’s statement, the auction is being organized in collaboration with Trans Atlantic Gem Sales and is open to customers in Sodiam’s database with expertise in trading special stones.
Viewing sessions will be held at Sodiam’s headquarters in Luanda.
The auction includes 20 stones from Kaixepa, 10 from Luele, eight from Catoca, two each from Chitotolo and Tchegi, one from Lulo, and one from Somiluana.
This marks Sodiam’s eleventh auction of rough diamonds, following the last event in July 2023, which raised $21.6 million for 46 special stones.
Sodiam is responsible for marketing Angola’s diamond production, which comes from 17 mining operations.
In 2023, Sodiam exported approximately 9.9 million carats, valued at around $1.5 billion, positioning Angola as the world’s third-largest rough diamond producer by value.
