TotalEnergies SE has awarded Shearwater Geoservices Holding AS a contract to conduct an ocean bottom node (OBN) survey in Angola’s Block 32.
The project will focus on the Louro and Mostarda fields, where Shearwater previously carried out a 4D streamer survey for TotalEnergies.
The deepwater OBN survey will be executed using the SW Tasman, a seismic node-laying vessel equipped with dual remotely operated vehicles (ROVs).
The SW Tasman, converted in 2023 for specialized node-laying tasks, will be supported by the SW Gallien as the source vessel, according to Shearwater’s announcement.
Scheduled to begin in January 2025, the survey is expected to last two and a half months. Shearwater plans to deploy its compact, high-endurance Pearl nodes for this project.
Irene Waage Basili, CEO of Shearwater, expressed satisfaction with the performance of the SW Tasman and the Pearl OBN platform, which has been in continuous operation since its launch.
She noted, “We are pleased to see another key client utilize this platform to introduce deepwater OBN technology in new operational areas.”
In September, Shearwater announced another key project: a 4D seismic monitoring contract for the Jubilee field in Ghana, operated by Tullow Ghana Ltd.
That survey, slated for early 2025, will span two months and employ Shearwater’s advanced fleet and cutting-edge seismic technology.
This will be Shearwater’s first contract conducted in collaboration with its local partner, Destra Energy, and will include significant local content participation.
Basili emphasized the company’s strong position in West Africa, stating, “Our towed streamer technology is an excellent fit for the Jubilee field, providing Tullow and its partners with repeatable, high-quality data to support reservoir optimization.”
Shearwater has also been recognized for its contribution to Petrobras’ offshore exploration programs in Brazil, recently receiving the Petrobras Best Suppliers award.
Since 2020, the two companies have worked together on several significant projects, including advanced 3D and 4D seismic programs.
The award reflects Shearwater’s ability to deliver consistent, high-quality datasets to Petrobras over the years.
In June, Shearwater and Petrobras further strengthened their partnership by signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for joint research and development in seismic acquisition and processing.
The five-year agreement focuses on improving data quality, value, and operational efficiency while reducing the environmental impact of seismic projects.
