The Mozambican Government has approved a concession contract allowing Eni Mozambico and Empresa Nacional de Hidrocarbonetos (ENH) to explore and produce petroleum in the Angoche A6-C Offshore Area.
This decision, announced by the Council of Ministers, grants exclusive rights to conduct petroleum operations and produce oil from deposits within the concession area, located offshore of Nampula and Zambézia provinces.
The concession also includes non-exclusive rights to build and operate necessary infrastructure for production and transportation unless existing infrastructure is accessible under reasonable terms.
In 2022, the National Petroleum Institute (INP) reported that Eni submitted a proposal during the sixth Licensing Round, with Eni holding a 60% stake and ENH holding 40% in the A6-C area.
Mozambique, which has Africa’s third-largest natural gas reserves estimated at 180 trillion cubic feet, is advancing several major development projects in the Rovuma Basin, one of the world’s largest gas reserves.
Notable projects include those led by TotalEnergies (Area 1 consortium) and ExxonMobil and Eni (Area 4 consortium).
TotalEnergies’ project faced delays due to security issues, while ExxonMobil and Eni’s investments are still pending. Eni’s other offshore project is nearing full production.
