The Sociedade Mineira de Somiluana inaugurated a cutting-edge sorting center in Lunda-Norte yesterday, signaling a significant boost in the monthly diamond production volume to 15 thousand carats.
Reinaldo Trindade, President of the Board of Directors of the diamond operator, revealed that the acquisition and installation of the new sorting plant, equipped with three lines and a processing capacity of six tons of concentrate per hour, pave the way for an upsurge in both the quantity and quality of diamond production.
“With this new facility, we envision a highly promising future where our production capacity can reach 15 thousand carats per month,” stated Trindade, expressing optimism about the company’s trajectory.
Highlighting Somiluana as a vital training ground for industry professionals, Trindade emphasized its pivotal role in shaping the future of Angola’s diamond sector amidst ongoing reforms, particularly in enhancing the commercial value of mined stones.
Moreover, Trindade underscored that the expanded production capacity aligns with the company’s commitment to social responsibility initiatives, aimed at supporting local communities within the concession area. These efforts aim to mitigate the impact of mining activities and foster job creation.
Operating across a vast concession area spanning 444 square kilometers, Sociedade Mineira de Somiluana focuses on secondary deposits (alluvium), holding a 33 percent stake, with the remaining 67 percent owned by the National Diamond Company of Angola (Endiama).
