TotalEnergies, a leading energy supermajor, has announced a strategic partnership with chemical manufacturing company Zambo Energy to supply fuel products to South Africa.
The partnership was unveiled during an energy summit in Cape Town on April 23, reaffirming TotalEnergies’ commitment to enhancing integration with its marketing affiliates across South Africa.
“Security of supply and competitiveness are paramount,” emphasized Thomas Waymel, Senior Vice-President of Trading and Shipping at TotalEnergies. “We are dedicated to expanding our energy footprint in Africa, which remains a major focus for us.”
Despite constituting approximately 20% of sub-Saharan Africa’s total fuel product demand, South Africa has grappled with a shortage of fuel storage in recent years.
Moreover, due to limited refining capacity, about 60% of the country’s fuel demand is met through imports.
In response to South Africa’s supply challenges, TotalEnergies aims to bolster its competitive edge in the country leveraging its affiliated legacy assets.
Additionally, the company plans to provide additional storage and logistical support in the port city of Durban, addressing the pressing need for enhanced storage infrastructure.
The partnership between TotalEnergies and Zambo Energy signifies a significant step towards fortifying South Africa’s energy security and meeting its growing fuel demand.
Through collaborative efforts and strategic investments, TotalEnergies reaffirms its commitment to playing a pivotal role in the energy landscape of South Africa.
