Shell commits to aiding Nigeria’s Energy crisis with Renewable solutions

The British multinational oil and gas company, Shell has promised to aid Nigeria in resolving some of its energy crises.

The company noted that it would help the Nigerian government use renewable energy sources to provide electricity for millions of Nigerians.

A report by the Punch newspaper revealed that Shell has committed to assisting Nigerians in supplying electricity to millions of residents.

The oil giants stated that they will provide Nigerians with off-grid energy sources from renewables, particularly in places that are not linked to the national grid.

This information was relayed by Mr. Osagie Okunbor, the Managing Director, of Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Limited, and Country Chair, of Shell Companies in Nigeria.

He made the announcement while speaking at a ministerial panel session on ‘Navigating the New Energy World Order: Security, Transition and Finance’, at the 7th Nigerian International Energy Summit in Abuja.

According to the Punch newspaper, via information provided to the publication on Friday by Abimbola Essien-Nelson, the media relations manager, Shell promised to help Nigeria use gas as a transition fuel.

Shell argued that Africa can harness the potential of the energy industry and achieve energy security, transformation, and economic development by embracing collaborations, technical innovation, and sustainable finance, noting it needed “a holistic approach that addresses efficiencies in the development of conventional energy sources which Africa has an abundance of and will depend on for now and in the nearest future.”

In her capacity as the Managing Director of Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company Limited, Mrs. Elohor Aiboni represented Okunbor, who pointed out that access to cutting-edge technologies, innovations, and best practices for streamlining operations and reducing emissions could be facilitated by international partnerships and collaborations.
