A consortium comprising maritime construction firm Ocean Installer and engineering company Oceaneering has won a contract for work on the Girassol Life Extension (GIR FLEX) project in Angola.
Awarded by French multinational TotalEnergies and its partners for Block 17, the contract will extend the production lifecycle of the project to 2031.
Ocean Installer will handle transportation and installation services for GIR FLEX, encompassing the recovery of old risers, transportation, and installation of 10 new risers, along with a gas lift umbilical.
Oceaneering will be responsible for the air and saturation diving services. Such services also include associated project management, engineering and procurement.
According to Mark Peterson, Executive at Oceaneering, work on the project has already started. He stated that “Work to date has involved things such as surveying, engineering, and project management planning, with the major offshore services being planned for later 2024 and into 2025.”
Chris Dyer, Senior Vice President at Oceaneering, added that his firm is excited to contribute to the success of a project that will reinvigorate oil and gas activities across Angola’s offshore basins and, overall production and monetization of energy resources. The contract is Oceaneering’s second in Angola.
