Oil and gas exploration and production company Rhino Resources Namibia has submitted an Environmental Clearance Certificate application to Namibia’s government to drill up to 10 exploration or appraisal wells in Block 2914 in the southern African country’s offshore Orange Basin.
Rhino Resources Namibia and its partners currently hold a Petroleum Exploration License for Block 2914A and is proposing to drill exploration and appraisal wells within the Block to confirm and test the presence of hydrocarbon resources.
Exploration activities for the Block will include vertical seismic profiling, well testing and well abandonment.
As part of the process to acquire the Environmental Clearance Certificate from Namibia’s Ministry of Environment, Forestry and Tourism, Rhino Resources Namibia will need to undertake an Environmental and Social Impact Assessment, which will be overseen by advisory solutions group, SLR Environmental Consulting Namibia.
Early analysis of the Block, which includes extensive datasets and a 3D seismic survey covering 1,700km2, showcases promising prospects, giving confidence to Rhino Resources Namibia in the multiple play types identified.
Block 2914A covers an area of roughly 5,338km2 and is situated in water depths of between 200m to 1,800m approximately 140km offshore southern Namibia at its closest point.
Rhino Resources Namibia holds operatorship of Block 2914A with a 75% participating interest.
